This project had a number of obstacles to overcome. The site fronts
a freeway in an area with stringent scenic requirements; it's a mini-storage,
not typically considered desirable in a view-shed landscape; no company
signage is allowed; and the site is a steep slope. Lauren Anderson Design
took the innovative approach of using a themed design for the project,
tucking it onto the slope so the portions visible in the scenic viewscape
appear to be a visually pleasing collection of old barns, allowing it
to be built without the high blank walls which are commonly required
around a mini-storage complex. In addition, LA Design crafted a corporate
identity for the project by using a water-tower located on-site, much
more recognizable as a landmark than a company sign would have been.
Construction is expected to begin mid-June 2002.
